Kitchen Coordinator
The Role: The Kitchen Coordinator oversees the food and drink provided at the Front Room Club, supervises any kitchen volunteers and helps the members to grow and resource their club.
The Front Room Club is a café style drop in running from 9:30am to 2:30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday at St Luke’s Downham. The club is for those who are experiencing or at risk of social isolation and provides a safe, welcoming and supportive place to grow. Providing a place to meet people, access support and advice, develop social and practical skills, and talk about mental health challenges.
Our members come from varying ages, demographics and backgrounds – though the vast majority are over 50 and many have mental health difficulties. With the exception of anti-social behaviour there are no restrictions to people coming to the club.
Our objectives:
- To reduce isolation and the negative impact it causes to people’s mental and physical health
- To provide accessible advice and support services for the isolated
- To encourage people to take an active role in society

Job Description:
Kitchen Supervision:
• Supervise the Front Room Club kitchen volunteers
• Enable club members to take ownership of the club
• Compliance with food hygiene and COSHH requirements
Logistics
• Preparation of meals
• Ensure the drinks station is stocked and kept clean
• Ensure the pantry is stocked and managed
• Creating recipes and menus with group members and contributing to shopping
• Stock taking and ensuring food is used in a timely fashion to minimise waste
• Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and in good working order
• Publicise the Front Room Club
The Person: The right person for this role will be experienced in cooking for large groups (approximately 20-50). They will be able to maintain a clean and orderly kitchen. They will know how to handle conflict and have good boundaries in their interactions with club members. They will be able to oversee volunteers well.
The Churches: St Luke’s, Northover is part of the Catford and Downham Parish (Registered Charity 1142353) alongside St John the Baptist, Bromley Road, St Barnabas, Downham Way, and St Mark’s, Baudwin Road, of the Church of England. During the week the churches play host to a number of community activities.
Terms, Conditions and Pay:
The role will be for 18 hours a week paid London Living Wage (currently £13.15 per hour) and comes with 101 hours of annual leave. These hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday 9.00am to 3.00pm, based at St Luke’s. Job share applications are encouraged.
